FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the platform

Is this a certified appraisal?

No. ValueMySurplus produces fast, transparent, directional valuations to help you bid, list, write down, or scope a deal. It is not a USPAP-certified appraisal — if a lender, insurer, or court requires a signed certified opinion, use a credentialed appraiser. Most day-to-day pricing decisions don't need one.

How can you value something with no sale comps?

That's the point. Instead of relying on a private transaction database, the engine values from abundant public reference data — new and used asking prices, auction results, and materials/metals markets — applies a calibrated recovery rate, and floors the estimate at scrap value. Every number is backed by the sources it found, so you can audit it.

How accurate is it, and how do I trust the number?

Each valuation shows its work: the comparables it used (with links), the assumptions behind the math, and a confidence level. You can adjust any assumption and watch the range update. It's decision support you can defend, not a black box.

What kinds of assets can I value?

The messy long tail of industrial surplus — used equipment, pipe/valves/fittings (OCTG), transformers and electrical gear, specialized machinery, mixed lots, and decommissioned assets. If it has a clean SKU or UPC, existing tools already price it; we focus on what they can't.

Do you have an API or work with AI agents?

Yes. The same engine is available as a REST API and as an MCP server (on Pro and Enterprise), so your tools, marketplace, or AI agents can value surplus the same way the web app does.

Is there a free plan, and can I cancel anytime?

Yes — the Free plan includes a few valuations every month with no card required. Paid plans include a trial and can be canceled anytime from your account settings.
